Students hard at work at the Bargue Drawing weekend workshop in April. Reproducing Bargue drawings is a core practice for students following the academic method.
On Saturday, June 7th, we celebrated the opening of the Master Copy exhibit at the Tartine Bakery, 770 Beach Ave., Vancouver. This is the last of four exhibits that featured the work of my students. Earlier exhibits focussed on Bargue, Portrait and Figure works. Many, many thanks to Jo-ann Turford, artist extraordinaire, and our gracious host at the Tartine. The show runs until July 3rd.
I am delighted to be among the distinguished Canadian artists participating in MONO/CHROME, a Kardosh Projects group exhibition, in association with the Marion Scott Gallery.
My recent series of drawings in graphite depicting antique European tools worn through use, and paying tribute to the ideals of technical skill and longstanding traditions of manual labour, will be featured in the exhibition.
On view from June 19 until August 9, the show brings together drawings, prints, paintings, photographs, and sculpture from the 1960s to the present, with styles ranging from hard edge to the gestural, and from abstraction to high realism.
The preview and opening reception will take place in the gallery Wednesday, June 18, from 7-9 pm. Hope to see you there.
